I scratched the slated breakfast interviews I was going to do on Sunday at Jenae's,  as it started to feel forced, planned, tedious and taxing. As I just tweeted to Chris, our producer and lead everything guy, I want this film to be artsy. I posted the thing on Facebook this week about wanting to "interview" people and I swear, people keep throwing professionals such as psychologists and media experts and/or 'sexperts' at me for me to interview.

It feels wrong.

I don't want a repeat of my fucking radio show where I allowed all these experts onto the show and didn't get much of an opportunity to be heard as an expert myself. This film is not about interviewing the experts, or educating so much as it is about letting the people speak. This is a movie for the people, by the people. This is an art film, where imagery and music will be key. There will be narration but mostly it will be about OUR journey in the end, a memoir of sorts detailing where we go, what we see and what we learn. Us, documenting our views, our experiences and then taking those pre-concieved notions that we've developed over the years, throughout our life which has become our hypothesis and road map of life. We bring these with us on our journey, we will be tested as will our hypothesis of life will be tested, our realities will be tested, our strengths will be tested and our true character.

This is a film about us.

We are the characters in the film.

So, I guess I am saying we need to LOVE the people we will be working with, respect them and like being around them, as likely they will also have a big part in the film, not just behind the scenes but on camera as well. I know a couple of you are more interested in doing behind the scenes work and that is fine by me too. Currently, me and Lara are the face of this project, that's fine with me. Lara and I can dialogue till the death! In India, In bed and On Darvo. Darvo Hi! See you on the other side.

Well, the journey has officially begun! I am so thrilled and excited.

The Sex and Religion production and film crew (aka Darvo Hi Films) gathered in Los Angeles this weekend for the pre production meeting, planning, preparing, and getting to know you. I'm so blessed to have such wonderful people on my team.

Lara Wurm, Production Assistant flew all the way from Rochester, New York, and our Director of Photography,  Marketing and Production, Chris Knitters headed up the entire crew by flying in from Kansas City, Missouri.  This is all a big giant thank you to Chris!

The weekend started on Wednesday night at Fig and Olive on Melrose Pl in West Hollywood after Szymon, our Los Angeles based Senior Cameraman picked up Chris from LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) and then they came and met me and another friend of mine for drinks. Thursday night was a quiet, catch up on sleep and tie up loose ends of the work week (yes, this fearless director works an often hectic work week as a sex therapist). Besides on Thursday Lara had a hectic lay over at Chicago O'Hare the Oh hairy ass of an airport and so they checked into a hotel and laid low in Hollywood perusing only the finest bars at Chateu Marmont.

Friday Lara and Chris shot B roll, street scenes of Los Angeles, while I worked a short day and we officially kicked off the journey that afternoon in Chatsworth, the capitol of the porn and adult industry in the San Fernando Valley. First stop Art of Life Tattoo, where I get my tattoos for the last 6 years, and where I started off our Sex and Religion film journey by getting these two tattoos symbolizing my love for music, a lifetime of playing music, and the last decade of commitment to music and playing in bands. 

I felt these were quite apropos. Considering this is also the beginning of a new artistic endavour, attempting to fulfill a vision I've also had for a decade about a film taking place in a land I consider the Motherland.... India.

 

After the tattoo shop we headed over to BJ's, which we also through was quite apropos considering we were in Chatsworth, the porn captial... I mean the place is seriously called BJ's, I know, Right? But in actuality it's a chain, a steakhouse and brewery chain, I doubt it really signifies BlowJobs, but we like to laugh and say it does.  Hey why not, this film is about Sex and Religion after all, and we were in Chatsworth.. 

Later in the evening we hit up Toi on Sunset for Thai food.... 

Saturday afternoon was spent working on marketing, production this and that. Saturday Evening was Sushi at Sushi Dan's in Studio City, where we were joined by our Utah Events Coordinator and Contributor, Los Angeles based Jenae Heitkamp, and the highlight of the weekend was hanging out at Voyeur on Saturday night in West Hollywood, a classy club that displays some more extreme levels of eroticism, not quite a bikini bar, and not quite a gentlemans club, but something a little more trendy and acceptable for a cosmopolitan bunch, in between sexy and cheesy, we liked it, in fact we loved the space and the vibe, but weren't sure about the crowd in it's entirity, might be a little too trendy for us Guerilla grassroots types. Although being bred somewhat in Los Angeles, and in Mary Ward Hall, we can clean up nicely.

Sunday was more shooting and discussion, planning and brainstorming. We had desired to interview people to get more people involved in conversations. We got what we got, and we're doing what we're doing. Crazy is as crazy does and we're doing it for sure. The promo should be up and ready in a few short weeks.

Stay tuned. We've got more plans in the making, ideas, preparations and oh yeah our Southwest trip this summer which will land us in Salt Lake City, destination UTAH to interview the mormons is in July. We'll be back in Los Angeles for a Fund Raiser this Fall, and hitting our peeps up in Toronto as well. And then we are off to India this winter, to avoid the monsoon rainy seasons don't let the rains come down on me. Shhooooot. Yes, we will!
